Meet Darshan

Born and raised in the GTA, Darshan Sritharan is a 2nd generation Canadian. He lives in Pickering with his wife Anchana and son Aran. As the son of immigrant parents, Darshan values diversity and is familiar with the struggle many families encounter when moving to a new country and the barriers they face. He has always supported and mentored clients, family and colleagues in their various pursuits. Sharing his personal experiences with others is a key principle for Darshan, as he strongly believes in effective collaboration.

While attending York University for HR studies, Darshan discovered the banking industry and saw an opportunity to build on his passion for helping others. His career began at TD where he worked his way up to the position of Mobile Mortgage Specialist. He then held a similar role with CIBC. Darshan’s work ethic earned him various accolades for client service and top performance.

Today, Darshan is a mortgage agent with Dominion Lending Centres, and has often been recognized with awards for his dedication and performance. He understands the importance of consistency and hard work to deliver the best results, both in his personal and professional life. His dedication to making a difference in the lives of clients and contributing within his community has been consistent throughout his life and career. In 2021, when most services were cancelled, he was a key organizer of the Connecting GTA Remembrance Day car & truck rally, which crossed the region and raised over $11,000 for struggling Legion Halls in Durham Region.

What Matters to Darshan

Housing Affordability

There is no doubt that a home is out of reach for most first-time buyers and for many seniors today. Darshan will work tirelessly to advocate for responsible development of affordable homes for families, where we also focus on infrastructure to support them. We need to build neighbourhoods, not just houses. Responsible development means residents having the services they need available where they live.

Diversity and Inclusion

Pickering has many thriving cultures and we have much to learn from the experiences and background of others. The last two years have caused great stress on society and intolerance has, sadly, become more common. Darshan will form an advocacy group to address issues of racial intolerance and promote diversity in local workplaces and institutions.

Economic Development

Pickering is the perfect location for businesses who want to remain close to Toronto without the high overhead in the city. Many business owners are looking to Durham Region with relocation strategies, and we want to be sure that Pickering will be their first choice. Investment in our city will bring revenue to existing businesses and jobs for our citizens. Darshan will make economic development a priority on council including inviting new companies into the Innovation Corridor.

Preservation of Green Spaces for Future Generations

With rapid growth and a booming local economy, we must remain dedicated to preserving the green spaces that make our city beautiful. Even as we grow, the next generation needs to be able to enjoy our natural beauty and outdoor spaces just as we enjoy them today so that they can also live, work and play right here in Pickering.

Promoting Innovative Thought Leadership at City Hall

Darshan understands keenly that it is the citizens who are the clients of the City of Pickering. He will work with council to actively encourage innovative input from current staff, and bring new fresh minds into the city offices. As a corporation, in order to thrive the City must put the needs of our clients first, and ensure that new and current policies and procedures are in the best interest of the taxpayers.
